ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
(01-03-2021, 08:50 PM)ac3r Wrote: There's nothing on the GRT_ROW Twitter account about it. It's not like we'd see the TTC shutdown the entire subway/streetcar network in Toronto but not give any sort of press release or update to social media, so I wonder why GRT thinks it's okay to leave 620'000 people in the dark about it.

Would it have really been the ice? There wasn't a whole lot in the end - certainly nothing that would be too much just for the LRV pantograph to break through on its own...it might spark a few times but that's pretty normal. They have sand dispensers on the vehicles as well that handle the traction.

The public -- and, more importantly, the users -- are the last ones to be informed.

It seems that the "free" 15th Bombardier unit will be delivered sometime in February according to this post on Urban Toronto.

Let's not get into this again, please. The delays were not all on BBD, and having issues on the trains happens with all manufacturers. I think we've gone over this enough times already, have we not?

Caught this accident at the corner of Benton & Charles this afternoon.  Pictures were taken about 15 minutes apart between 1:45  & 2pm as I passed by.  Didn't see any ambulances so hopefully no injuries. LRT traffic was halted in both directions.  I noticed Fairview bound traffic resuming by 2:30.

It never ceases to amaze me how people manage to crash these infernal machines!

This is what they’re talking about when they say that any attempt to make something foolproof will soon be foiled by the introduction of a greater fool.

I'm trying to piece together what happened there and having a hard time figuring it out. Where they trying to get onto the west-bound lanes of Benton through the crosswalk? Did a train hit them, or was it some other kind of collision?

"What is that pole...I've never seen that pole before....why is it getting bigger..."

Edit: To be honest, on a second look, it looks like they were driving in the crosswalk.

My guess is they turned from Charles to Benton, realized they were headed the wrong way, and decided to U-turn then and there.

I couldn't figure out what happened either and I didn't get a chance to stop and ask.  There definitely wasn't a train involved and the only other vehicle that could have been involved was that black car parked in the intersection.  If you look closely there appears to be a little bit of debris under/around the car, but I didn't get a glimpse of the other side of the vehicle to see if it actually was damaged.  Maybe it was just an unmarked cop car blocking traffic?

Coming out of the U driveway in front of the Crowne Plaza, trying to make a left turn?

That's my guess.
