While I consider it an entrance, it's not much of one. I think the entrance needs to be grand like at gaukel

I estimate it's 7-8m wide, roughly the same as the total width of Gaukel St, including sidewalks. The path is narrower, but the amount of traffic on it is quite low. I don't think it needs a major rework, better signage and maybe some landscaping changes would make it a very nice entrance.

Ya there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not prominent at all. You could easily miss it compared to Joseph and gaukel

It's happening, folks – https://gaukel.ca/
> From September 26-29, Gaukel Street in downtown Kitchener will be transformed into a fun, people-focused space. Relax with friends at the patio tables, enjoy live music and theatre, or shoot hoops at the basketball net! The Record coverage: https://www.therecord.com/news-story/961...this-week/ Of particular interest to people on this forum, we're collecting feedback about what you'd like to see long-term on Gaukel. This is not an official City survey, but I will bring the results to the working group led by transportation staff. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQ...A/viewform

Very exciting Sam! Thanks so much for all of the hard work you and your group has done on this!

Basketball hoops? Where is that coming from? Seems bizarre in such a constrained space.

I don’t know anything about the plans specifically, but between Charles and Joseph most of the street on one side is the entrance to the former bus terminal. As a result there is a huge amount of pavement which could be used for almost anything. Of course eventually presumably something will be built on that block, but even then it would be easy to widen the right-of-way for Gaukel by taking some of the bus terminal land. And certainly for something temporary like this there is no reason the bus terminal space can’t be used.

My guess is to provide a ton of different activities and see what is popular

So what's the process for this to become a full time thing?

Emailing your city councillor is, as always, very helpful too. Showing up and delegating at a council meeting about the issue is even better. It's always an issue that proponents don't show up in the same way. The Young St bike lanes are a prime example. The only delegation was someone saying "I don't want to lose my parking" and no one saying "I'd cycle here" .

I think it's clear that it was a success.
What kind of infrastructure/development changes need to happen to make it a year round success?
