A story one some of the downtown candidates in the Kitchener Post:
https://www.kitchenerpost.ca/news-story/...andidates/
Since then, Susan Stark (ward 9) and Sarah Marsh (ward 10) have also submitted papers. Notably all five candidates in the downtown wards (9 and 10) are female.

Is Peter Maier female?

My bad! I assume not … OK, all the candidates for ward 9, and four out of five for the downtown area are female.

Quote:Ward 4 Kitchener Coun. Yvonne Fernandes has announced she won’t be seeking re-election in this fall’s municipal election, citing unpalatable conditions on the city’s current council that she feels are often dictated by personal agendas.

No loss, imho. Now if Gazzola could only reach a similar conclusion .....
BTW, who are the developers on council?

I can't remember the name, but one of them was the one who wanted to take a lot at the intersection of a couple major streets in Waterloo and turn it into modest density. Every time, Waterloo council and residents chopped and chopped at it until eventually, nothing recognizable as fitting for an intersection of two collectors got built.

Narine Sookram wants to be Kitchener's mayor

I don't see this as a serious threat to Berry Vrbanovic re-election chances, but at least we'll have a campaign, rather than an acclamation.

I wonder who the "right people" are?
I'm guessing it is this:
Quote:For the past two decades, Narine has contributed to the development and advancement of the 'underprivileged' population here in the Region of Waterloo through his past role as an outreach co-ordinator while working at Opportunities Waterloo Region and his current role as a job developer at Lutherwood Employment Services

You do not have to live in the ward where you are running, the only residency requirement is:
"live in Kitchener or are the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of someone who owns or rents there;"

John Gazzola, the incumbent, doesn't live in the ward he represents either.

If they don't live in their wards, why not just make everyone councillors-at-large?

Yes, I realize you don't have to live in the ward you want to represent. It's just that Howe promotes himself as a neighbourhood kind of guy and for him to represent a ward he doesn't live is smacks of opportunism.

Because our society is obsessed with local representation. Whether it makes sense or not.
To be honest, I was rather surprised you didn't have to live in the ward you were running for, doesn't really make sense to me.
