I agree with this. Permanent bollards can also be designed to fit with the uptown aesthetic better than the plastic flexible ones.

My ex-housemate knows them both but he hasn't given me their names.

That's awful. Even with my bike in that area in my basement behind locked doors, and being near worthless, I'm always a bit worried about that.
Did he steal two bikes? The two shots show him on two different bicycles. Which bike is yours? Lower shot I'm guessing.

Why wouldn’t your housemate give you their names?? WTF is wrong with people?
Hopefully you gave this all to the police... this really sucks Gary. Out of curiousity (as far as how hard these thieves will go to), how secure were your bikes? Now I worry about mine (again).
(I had my Trek Y5 stolen out of our shed within a week after moving into our house in Central Frederick... as well as our block heater cord right out of our driveway while plugged in.)

Perhaps after the police talk to your ex-housemate about aiding and abetting you'll have better luck...

I had my bike stolen out of my shed last spring - they cut through the hasp and walked away with the bike. I bought a replacement bike and made sure to lock the wheels to the frame and ran a bike lock cord through the lock and around a thick part of my snowblower, thinking I was being clever... one month later they cut the hasp on my shed, cut the bike lock cord, and stole my bike. I eventually got the second bike back, badly reconfigured, when they busted the bikes-for-meth warehouse in Cambridge.
The lesson here is, if you get a second bike don't put it where you kept the first one... and that bike lock cords aren't safe if the bad guys have some time and some privacy. Now my bike lives inside.

Messaging will need to be conveyed about the new streetscape and bike lanes once the work is complete with cycling symbols / signage.
It is our intent to communicate this message while the work is underway and advise the public when the bike lanes are open for use.
This may take some time and we'll continue to monitor when the work is finished.

Coke My point is with his distinct look and those shoes. If you want to poke fun at my comment feel free to meet me for a coffee and we can discuss further . I was sincerely telling the victim that the odds are good to solve this.

I think Coke was just having fun, saying "Waitaminute - I have red shoes and glasses like those!"
I don't think they were dissing you.

THIS. I actually LOL'd in the same way a description of a [insert crime here] suspect matches what I'm wearing that particular day. I know its coincidence that we match, and hopefully there are only two people in Kitchener with such of cool taste in style....
That's why I followed it with the personal story of understanding. Sounds like Gary (with the "help" of an ex-roommate) has 99.9% more of a chance at recovery than most people, so I am honestly wishing him luck in finding your bike(s).

On the subject of crossing the Spur Line Trail at Union, and "courteous" drivers:
Tonight I waited about 45 seconds. Traffic was just about to fully clear so I could cross... and then the very last car, with nobody behind her, stopped.
She flashed her lights. Without even thinking, I put my arms above my head and made a big "X", which is the universal sign in the amusement industry for "Cross" - meaning I'm not going! I shook my head and then pointed at her to go, she smiled and waved like "I get it" and moved on.
Duty faithfully performed in training yet another...
(the whole thing of doing this when there is nobody behind you blows my mind - because it shows you have zero concept of what's going on around you.)
