I saw a pickup truck along parts of the rapidway in Uptown today that wasn't one of the usual GrandLinq/Keolis/Kiewit/Aecon/OnTrack vehicles; it was from a company I had never heard of before call RailTerm.
Apparently they are hiring for a Communication Systems Technician / Railway Signal Maintainer.
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

In case you missed it over on the GRT thread a staff report is recommending against any advertising for the exterior of the ION trains or buses. The interior space of both vehicles will be included in the 2019 RFP for transit advertising.

RailTerm is GrandLinq's track maintenance contractor. They do daily inspections of the OCS and track surfaces to ensure they are clear of debris and safe for operation.

I happened to see the ballast cars sitting on the LRT tracks just south of the expressway yesterday afternoon. I was driving on the expressway so couldn’t get a good view (well, not safely!). I wonder what they were doing?

506 is proudly displayed between Go Glass’ new home and Superior Memorials at the Lancaster lot!
Glad it finally made it. I imagine it’ll go up the Waterloo Spur on Monday night, for offloading Tuesday (assuming they’re anxious to receive it, with it being so delayed).

Anybody know if they have security monitoring it when it’s at Lancaster? It seems to me like a very attractive graffiti target and I understand they watch it when it’s parked near the OMSF.

Oops, never mind, they just shuffled it away.
I’m not too worried about security and people doing stupid things to it - it sat in plenty of yards along the way.

I’m guessing that normally it is unmonitored at night, and all those train cars that you see rolling past with graffiti have to get tagged somewhere. I’m not worried about a place like Mac yard — I assume it has 24-hour security that watches it pretty closely.

That's my point though - you don't know or see all the little yards it went through from Millhaven to here - so, Lancaster is really no different than any of those as far as that is concerned.
Heck, last time, 507 sat all weekend up at that siding off Randal Drive without any security at all. I would have thought people would have been more concerned about that!

Don't underestimate security by obscurity. Randall Drive, and many railway yards, are far enough from potential graffitists' territory that they wouldn't bother; Lancaster is another matter.

Last night walking down Charles St, along the LRT line there was a number of instances where new infrastructure was damaged, very disappointing.
- a rail for a pedestrian island was completely bent over - a sign tell cars to not Park on the tracks was also bent over - the Victoria Park station sign was also damaged and a couple of other items - also notice that the metal bars at the Victoria Park stop shelter almost appear to be rusting or the top coat is wearing thin |
