The region outdoes itself again, new record for worst MUT. Here we have, what is literally and actually a sidewalk, with a MUT sign.
I am guessing that this is eventually slated to be replaced with a MUT (although given the positioning of the brand new hydro poles, I have no idea how they're going to fit it in), and it's super ironic that this *already* has signage, and yet, Weber, which has technically been a MUT for years, still doesn't.

In my ideal world, that becomes the default rule for all sidewalks!

This is a discussion I think we've had. Suffices to say, I don't want to let any municipal council off so easily.
It is worth pointing out though, that this is effectively the rule that is actually applied in practice.
Just another unenforced law.

I literally bike on the road in that area, rather than ride on the "MUT".

Here's a diagram of Weber St, a bit further north.
I've added in an imaginary pedestrian island.
The two green dots represent people, one on the sidewalk and one on the island.
The red rectangles the path of cars, drifting the same slight angle out of their lane.
The pedestrian on the sidewalk has one additional safety feature that the one on the island does not have, and that is the sidewalk curb. Curbs are designed specifically to prevent cars from mounting the sidewalk at these slight angles. The car will graze the curb and correct. The person on the island is almost certainly going to be killed because the car will have no feedback from the road design until they are driving straight over the island.

Pedestrian Islands are better than nothing, but they are the lowest increment better than nothing.
Not really different than a sidewalk if a vehicle mounts a curb there or in the median.

If you're interested in speaking to local politicians about needing bollards to protect already-narrow islands in high-speed roadways, you can take a look at the Laurel Trail at Weber island; as of last night, someone heading southbound plowed over it at took out the northernmost sign on it. Thankfully no sign of any poor souls being on the island at that time.

Narrow, wide, someone in a car plowed over it and knocked the sign flat, and left a tire mark.

Didn't someone say complaining on twitter doesn't accomplish anything? It actually seems like a really effective platform for easy, quick-fix issues like this.

In the absence of any reply to the tweet of the form “thanks for pointing that out, we’ll get somebody to look at it” it’s not appropriate to assume that the Twitter complaint had anything to do with the fix. Also requests of this nature shouldn’t have to be done in public to get action.

Apparently no winter maintenance wasn't enough to deter trail users along the Filsinger trail that additional barriers are required:
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.
