Of course we don't want it to happen. But everything in life is a trade-off. And this isn't even in the top 1000 negative side effects of having an LRT.

And the hospital argument is especially absurd. We'd need this to happen at the exact instance an ambulance was in the section that gets blocked. Otherwise there are lots of routes into the hospital and we're talking about a very minor delay. The expected value of negative health effects from this problem are trivial. Easily dwarfed by the negative health effects of the LRT and cars already.

CKCO news at noon reported on the broken down car and subsequent traffic tie-up with their usual anti-LRT slant.

Trying to reconcile with myself why I even watch their news at all anymore. It certainly isn't for their reporting of local sports.

Edit: Canard, you made it on the news!  Although I noticed they didn't mention what you were saying.

Let's say there were 20 cars stuck for 30 minutes (which I think is overstating it).  That's a 600 minute car-delay.  That's barely a major 'break down delay', let alone construction / congestion / rubber necking / etc. delay for this area.

Per a discussion on the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/81680629...804124051/), it will be fixed. The process will involve a different grade for the storefronts than from the through traffic.

I haven't noticed an anti-LRT slant on CKCO. The piece seems to be reporting what happened around a story of interest.

I had wondered if there was concern about getting rid of the awkward and non-accessible corner there, that doing so would mean drivers could not use the LRT as a turning lane and turn exceedingly wide, lest they run the risk of clipping a raised redesigned corner. I'm glad/hopeful that they've decided that cars can figure out how to execute a better turn, especially with an extra lanewidth to work with due to the rapidway.

Considering that the pole blocks a significant chunk of the sidewalk, it's not entirely absurd to imagine a ramp up to the businesses tucked partially behind it.
