Thanks. That makes me guess it is a 2011 photo. It looks like it’s further-south part than what I mostly use so maybe I’m just forgetting how overgrown it was before the construction.

the rail corridor would also be periodically cleared...it always looked really traumatic...lots of shredded branches etc...

Came across a vehicle parked directly on the trail as it turns up Caroline.

Unbelievable.

I did, but the driver returned as I was calling.  The call centre person seemed annoyed that I wanted the complaint recorded in some way but that I said there was no point in bylaw coming.

In other news, does anyone know how, or when, the gap in the spur line trail will be fixed?  It isn't bad most of the time, but every once in a while you come across a driver who feels the need to give the parked cars a wide berth, but shrugs at pedestrians who have to squeeze past in the ten inch gap they've left on the other side.

The city of Kitchener capital budget (page 7 and 209 of http://www.kitchener.ca/en/Calendar/Down...a23b5b7177), up for approval in the near future, has added:
"Iron Horse Trail Improvements – Funding of $1.0M has been added in 2018 for
upgrades to the south section (Queen to Ottawa) of the trail as identified in the Iron
Horse Trail Improvement Strategy. Upgrades will include items such as paving, roadcrossing
improvements, seating, and landscaping."
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

On the Morning Edition this morning, the hosts were talking about trail illumination. They reported that the portion of the Spur Line trail between Roger and Moore is still not officially open, but that Len’s Mills lease is up at the end of the year, so completion of the trail through there is to begin in the spring, with completion around July 2017. It seemed that the asphalt between the tracks and Len’s Mills’ building will be torn up, and the trail made to look the same as everywhere else.

I wonder where the store will find parking (I don’t see why it can’t just use street parking on Moore, but that seemed for some reason not to be an option). It will be great to have the trail fully opened through there, with no parking lot, though.

"Lens Mill leases the parking lot land from the Region of Waterloo, and pays an annual fee. The region and Lens Mill have been in discussions about moving the parking, and the store recently closed a deal to buy an abutting property to move their parking lot."

I wonder which abutting property? The properties facing Union would seem to offer potential for parking AND redevelopment.

One thing I wonder is this:

Really??? They just laid brand new asphalt. Can't they just cut away what they don't need, and leave the portion for the trail there? Maybe that's actually the plan, and it was just stated oddly.

That section of the trail also has no lighting at the moment.

But it is a shame to see brand new stuff ripped up.

It could also be like the stairs for the overpass at Frederick. While you could potentially work to repurpose parts of the trail, the effort required to preserve what was done, while removing the parking bits and replacing them with trail, it might actually be more expensive and a longer process in the end, leading to the seemingly more wasteful option.
