ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
I think the next update is tuesday

A spring (or early summer) start definitely seems to be what things are headed for. A poll on the Facebook group currently has June 20 and May 31 as the front-runners by quite a bit.

I'd imagine that the prelim acceptance is in by now although we haven't heard anything for sure. I was still hearing some fault codes on the radio. I don't think we've actually seen more than 4 trains out yet?

For me, as I drive around I am seeing the trains in Kitchener even less. It leads me to believe that something is seriously wrong.

There may be information forthcoming at the Planning and Works Committee meeting on Tuesday. https://calendar.regionofwaterloo.ca/Cou...-Committee

They have been concentrating testing on the northern segments, I think usually not going past Courtland at the most. They certainly don't need to for burn in, but they do for simulated service.

Canard hasn't been around unfortunately

They haven't been south of the Mill crossover in weeks, however it looks like they're pouring foundations for something at Block Line (art installation? I don't recall all the artwork plans), so maybe it's just to make that construction go faster.  I'll admit however that it's got me spooked.

Edit to add: The signal heads for the Cameron crossover were still bagged when I drove by late last week, and that's not a good sign either. Last week's CTV piece from the ION show and tell at GRH said "Still, some of the vehicles are taking longer", repeating the tired refrain of "it's all Bombardier's fault". I'm getting sick and tired of the region using Bombardier as their catch-all scapegoat, the hardworking men and women in Kingston deserve better.

Yes, I think it’s safe to say that Bombardier’s part in the delay is all in the past. We’ve had all the vehicles for 4 months, and some of them for over a year. When was that pull-through test?

Have we heard anything more about preliminary or final acceptance? The first and last vehicles to achieve each should be trumpeted from the mountaintops, and the information should be available about all the vehicles to those who are interested. But no — cone of silence, instead.

I should say that I do pretty routinely see 3 vehicles a day when out and about in Waterloo. Like, today and last Friday.

Thats great that they can run in Waterloo, what about Kitchener though. In my mind, there has to be an issue. They were running the trains to Fairview, now they dont..

An issue with the tracks or catenaries? It's hard to imagine what issue would prevent that, especially as there is no obvious work going on to correct a track/catenary problem.

Not so fast...We heard in the council update from Feb 28

Quote:"Overall reliability of the vehicles continues to be an issue. Bombardier needs to
complete significant modifications to address reliability issues. This totals
approximately 50 to 100 hours per vehicle of critical work that needs to completed
before service starts and 200 to 250 hours of work that can be completed after
service starts. These types of issues can be expected with an initial run of vehicles."

I had concerns at one point it was the water main issue at Cameron but it has been much longer since then that I have seen anything past the switch at Cameron

Agreed,  there has been no trains that I have seen on the southern portion.  I would see them regularly, now, never.  Something is up for sure...
