Avalon Place Highway 7/8 Multi-Use Trail Crossing
#91
Are they also adding a staircase or just the ramp? Stairs (or an elevator!) are a nice option for pedestrians. 😊

Based on the plans both sides will have stairs as well as the ramp. If you look at Acitta's last picture of the Avalon side the concrete columns that are formed are the supports for the stairs. On the Chandler side they have yet to form those columns as the bridge has to move onto the highway first right through where those columns will go.

The highway closure is planned for this coming weekend. The closures will start to take effect Friday night when shoulder and outside lanes start to close then the highway will be completely closed on Saturday. On Sunday the highway will be reopened to a single lane with all lanes open on Monday.

The detour for the highway is Ottawa St.

This Record piece indicates the ground conditions on the south side were trickier than anticipated, so more stabilization and more solid piling were needed. That added time and cost alongside supply chain issues.

They finally got around to pouring the concrete for the ramp on the Chandler Dr. side today.

It's just your average government project.

They still have to lift the main span into place, after the first scheduled go was cancelled. I guess it's tricky to rebook the crane and other needed equipment.

Wow...where is the money they spent on this actually going? How has it been OVER ONE ENTIRE YEAR since they began construction, yet they still haven't even completed the ramps UP to the actual bridge? WTF are they doing?!?!?!?!? The grey garbage can sitting on the top hasn't even moved since the last picture was taken a week ago lmfao.

Quote:The Region has built a pedestrian/cycle bridge that will be placed across Highway 7/8 to improve access and active transportation in the area. The bridge will be lifted and placed across the highway between the Fischer Hallman Rd and Homer Watson Blvd interchanges. It is necessary to close Highway 7/8 while the bridge is being put into place.

Lane closures on Highway 7/8 will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, moving into a full closure starting at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, August 25.

Chandler Drive, between Woodfern Court and Strasburg Road, will also require a brief closure of a few hours on August 24 to get equipment in place.

Highway 7/8 will reopen with a single lane on Sunday, August 25 before midnight. All lanes will fully open by Monday, August 26 at 5 a.m.

A bit of a hassle with the highway closure, but it'll be worth it in the end.
