Second LRT vehicle delivery delayed to late August at earliest
So, opening will undoubtedly be "Late Summer 2018" instead of "Early 2018". This is fine by me, so long as it doesn't slip any further - my only requirement is that the Opening Day Ceremony happen on a nice warm day with a clear blue sky!

I think there's a lot of unjustified fear here, unless Bombardier continues to slip, even if LRT2 comes in late September, and they only hit their original cadence we'll have all the LRTs by Jan/Feb 2018, and then we should be able to launch a month or two after that.....that's till "very early Spring 2018".
The only circumstances where a "Late 2018" launch becomes a thing is if Bombardier continues to not deliver any trains until at least mid 2018. By then, I'm quite sure we'd be in the middle of legal action against them.

I fully admit I could just be influenced by media 'sensationalism', but isn't it completely justified to fear that Bombardier will continue to slip?
Even looking at a statement like: "even if LRT2 comes in late September, and they only hit their original cadence" - this doesn't seem like the likely worst case at all. They've never (?) hit their projected cadence, so I'm don't really have any faith that they'll hit their projected cadence in the future either.
I think it really sucks, to be honest. It's more time for people to bitch and moan about the LRT. It's more ammunition for how Government can't do anything right. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Minor nitpick (since I'm seeing it more and more, including on the media articles):
LRT = Light Rail Transit, or Light Rapid Transit: The System
LRV = Light Rail Vehicle: The thing that goes on the tracks (trains)
I'm just so baffled that Berlin and Dandenong (Melbourne) can crank out LRV's left and right, and we just can't seem to do it here at all.

It’s quite extraordinary. At this point, their estimates don’t mean anything. Only Charlie Brown would believe them.
I don’t believe they have ever done as promised with modern Canadian LRV/Streetcar deliveries. And by that, I mean they haven’t even met a revised revised revised revised schedule, never mind the original schedule. Keep in mind the original Waterloo schedule should have had all the vehicles delivered last year, in 2016; and there should be over 100 Toronto streetcars delivered. Furthermore, they have provided misleading and incorrect explanations for the delays.

At least there's one winner in all this...Grandlinq. They will be dancing all the way to the bank. Per the project agreement, the Region has to begin paying them as soon as they reach substantial completion, whether we have vehicles or not. And our measly 21,000/day entitlement from Bombardier doesn't nearly cover that amount.

I agree, and am frustrated by the ammunition to people to complain about government not doing anything right etc.
I acknowledge that Bombardier might not hit their planned cadence....but they are still claiming too be able to do so. Producing 14 trains is easier than 214, and they have in fact hit their planned deliveries for the TTC street car this year.
It is entirely possible they'll continue to miss, but I'm not ready to say that's the case for sure as others seem to be.
