ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
Yeah, my question was going to be good or bad rumour? I want to hear good things. Tongue

Caught them in the middle of a pour on Charles this morning!

Nice to see them doing the pour "bare"! Means we're into the consistently warm enough weather that no covering is required for these smaller pours. That means trackwork can progress more quickly!

Crews are at work all along Charles. Mostly hydro stuff. Trackwork on Charles South of Borden only consists of laying some rebar mats. Almost nothing happened this week with that regard, a bit disappointing. I am guessing all the flurry of utility work happening today is to blame.

@insider, what's your scoop? Very annoying to say you brought something for Show and Tell, and not share with the class. Big Grin

Start:  Mar 15, 2016
Duration: 8 week closure.

This is from City of Kitchener Road Closures.   I wonder what work are they going to do here?   Rail Alignment?

The original notice doesn't actually say anything about a complete closure; perhaps we are assuming it is a full closure for all road users for nothing.

In most of the closures so far pedestrian access of some sort has been maintained.

Interestingly enough it isn't on the list anymore either:
http://app.kitchener.ca/road_closure/es_...losure.asp

and Gaukel at Charles is on the list and that was open this morning.

As for Ion's opening day, perhaps it is time for a poll? Based on current progress:
1) on time
2) early
3) late
4) really late
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

From what I have seen I am willing to say Early. Things are humming along!

There's been no work at Waterloo St for at least 3 months… other than repairing the fence.

Thank you, I noticed the closure gone also today.   It was kind of odd that the City of Kichener Road Closures website was the only one showing this closure.   I will say "on time", of course will change if the trains are late. Smile

Is the brick going to cover all the concrete?, if so how do they get the brick to stick to the concrete?  Thank you.

Brick would be installed th same way it would on a building, the brick wall sits on a ledge of concrete or steel and is tied back to the concrete walls with metal ties every few courses to keep it from " falling forward" therefore it isn't "glued" to the wall. Also common is a 1" air space behind the brick to allow any water or moisture to run to the bottom of the wall and drain out via weep holes and keep it out of the wall Smile

Looking back at photos before the brick was installed, the concrete in that area is recessed back which tells me that brick panel is likely the extent of the brick and the rest will be covered in something else?

Anybody know where the statue of WLMK is supposed to be installed after the staircase is completed?

The conceptual rendering here has no brick at all, just at the sides of the front doors. This is over a year old, I think these renders have changed. : http://www.rapidtransit.regionofwaterloo...sRFPV3.pdf
