Definitely the climate, and the wide open flat spaces. The boneyards are pretty neat places, my parents went to one in Airzona I think. Planes stored temporarily are usually all wrapped up and sealed to keep the sand and animals from getting in. I some pictures from France of planes with wrapped engines and stuff but can't seem to find it now.
