There's no regulatory limitation, no technical limitation, nothing. It's a choice that AC is making.I used the Air Canada bus for a trip to France last week. Easy check-in at YKF. We had a connecting flight through Montreal and were only able to download our YKF boarding pass in advance. We received all of our remaining boarding passes at YKF. Had the choice of electronic or printed. We were doing carry on only or we could have gotten baggage tags at YKF as well. Would have only had to drop our bags off at YYZ. The bus route was back roads until hwy 6 and quite efficient. Door to door in under an hour. They don’t do security clearance at YKF as once you board the bus and it departs it is no longer in a secure area. The bus security could be breached at anytime during the trip so being able to enter a secure area at YYZ is irrelevant. Coming home we chose not to take the bus and took an Uber instead as it was late at night and we had been travelling all day. Overall it was a good experience and the trip was included in the price of the flight. I would use this service again.
On boarding passes, I'm not sure how you get on the bus, but boarding passes are all electronic now, you get them on your phone before you leave the house no?
Bag tags are different, they may not tag your bags, but given that you still have to DROP your bags (in the same place you print the bag tags), to me, this doesn't make any difference (and again, they didn't do this when I went through YKF either).
As for the Boardwalk, it's not about distance (although you point out it is closer) it's about accessibility. Being on the other side of the river makes it more remote than the 40% longer distance would suggest.
I don't think it's that we have different priorities, but I am travelling with a family which makes a taxi from YYZ relatively more affordable. I might consider the service if I was alone, but it would be a no brainer if it went to DTK family or no, it would be an easy choice.
Like I said, I'm not saying that it doesn't provide _some_ value, but it could provide far far more either being at YKF and using the services there to avoid a lot of the queues at YYZ OR BY servicing a more relevant destination like DTK. That it does neither, man, it was a frustrating experience.
"Bus security could be breached at any time"...please be serious. I appreciate your input, but don't invent justifications, it discredits the rest of what you say.
I am also confused, not being able to get your boarding pass for the rest of the flight before reaching YKF is very strange to me. I always get all my boarding passes and such in order the day before (24-30 hours before departure depending on the airline), so I'm not understanding how this was not possible. Frankly, I'd be extremely anxious if I wasn't able to do this before getting to the airport.
How was the experience dropping bags at YYZ. To me, this has always been a major hassle. At least in Terminal 1 they have automated machines which don't work worth shit...there's always a huge line of people trying to drop bags and it seems like every 3rd person it takes 3-5 tries and 5 minutes actually drop their bags. Printing bag tags is the easy part of the process.
Although last time I flew we were at Terminal 3--the old terminal--and damn, it works so much more smoothly, to me, it's a reason to fly on KLM over AC.
