I'm not sure I understand the original argument anyways. Wouldn't part-time Canadian residents bring in more foreign (tourism) cash and be more likely to rent out to other shorter term tourists, vs these alleged long term British-owned rentals which would be much more likely to just be renting out to locals?

I'm not sure I get your point. Asking a few property management companies would give you a few anecdotes. But the links are to market research firms which collect actual market data.

As for the original argument, yeah, it's weird and absurd. Even if British tourists were spending more (which they likely do because travelling to Florida from the UK is much more expensive), there are still orders of magnitude more travellers from Canada...and that is still only one state...and the state most likely to see international travellers because of Disney Land. I guarantee you there are more Canadians with long term stays in Arizona than there are any from any other country, possibly even every other country combined.

This belief that we don't have any influence in this relationship with the US stems from the American view that they don't even notice Canada...which is true, but as so many American beliefs not based in reality.
