Perhaps the School of Architecture has commented that the City is becoming known for the fake stucco theme. Northdale is the epicentre of the movement, but manifestations have been rising around Uptown, not confined to student housing.
There is incredible variety within the motif. There is monocolour fake stucco, checkerboard fake stucco, crescent-accented fake stucco, fake stucco erupting from fake stone… distinctions are limited only by the imagination. The vertical bands of contrasting fake stucco on this render are quite stunning.
Queen’s University reinforces the image of The Limestone City. Fredericton and UNB have their red brick. I think it is time for U of W to further “cement” its town-gown relations with The Fake Stucco City.
