With all the new off campus purpose built student housing built over the last 10 years, I really question why this is needed.

RE: UW Residence Building - Spokes - 06-05-2015

Because UW sees money to be made and wants in on it too

More importantly, University rankings depend critically on offering residence space to 100% of the incoming freshman class.

Yeah, for that 10 year gap, they've been steadily reducing the amount of Rez space for upper years to make space for frosh.

RE: UW Residence Building - nms - 06-22-2015

In addition, UW can offer secure, clean, habitable residence space that is built well vs. some of the student-geared warehouses...er...apartments that have been built in the last few years.

Ok, I'll bite. In what way are more "warehouse"ish than a standard residence building on campus?

Or is that part of the RoW tradition for using inflammatory language when referring to Town-Gown urban aspects?

are there any larger versions of this image?

Haven't you ever heard of respecting the existing historical built environment? Gotta blend in with UW Place.

Wow.  Why would this be approved.  When builders be held to higher standards.  This is particularly disappointing given some of the very cool buildings on UWs campus

Perhaps the School of Architecture has commented that the City is becoming known for the fake stucco theme. Northdale is the epicentre of the movement, but manifestations have been rising around Uptown, not confined to student housing.

There is incredible variety within the motif. There is monocolour fake stucco, checkerboard fake stucco, crescent-accented fake stucco, fake stucco erupting from fake stone… distinctions are limited only by the imagination. The vertical bands of contrasting fake stucco on this render are quite stunning.

Queen’s University reinforces the image of The Limestone City. Fredericton and UNB have their red brick. I think it is time for U of W to further “cement” its town-gown relations with The Fake Stucco City.

RE: UW Residence Building - panamaniac - 06-23-2015

Why "fake" stucco?

RE: UW Residence Building - insider - 06-24-2015

Someone post high-rez (see what I just did?) versions of these renders! an interior shot from today's daily bulletin:

meh... so meh. 5 shades of beige, maybe they are meant to represent the diversity of skin colours at UW... yeah right.

They appear to have finished the utility work, and you can see the base for a tower crane now.
