Twitter *had* $6B in cash/short-term investments, but they almost certainly don't have that now. It would have been used as part of the purchase (doesn't make sense to load Twitter up with a bunch of expensive debt and keep the cash at the same time). I don't believe we know what they kept on hand.

If you want to join the Fediverse but aren't crazy about Mastodon, https://fediverse.party/ has a list of other networks in the fediverse with descriptions, who they connect with, etc.

I see that someone has started another Waterloo based Mastodon instance, Kitchener Waterloo Techs. It is not open for signup yet.
