Looks like it will be broadcasted on the City’s YouTube page? I’d assume it wouldn’t be interactive at all if that’s the case?

We understand the timing of the city's public meetings are not ideal and are exploring dates, times and venues to host our own community consultations. I wonder how this project will be affected by the multiple manufacturing facilities bordering the property. Do you expect this to be a concern for future residents? Do you think the factories will shut down, or is this a symbiotic relationship?

Notice how they never use scare words like "massive" when they write headlines for house price increases or city debt levels.

Compared to the existing useless empty lot, anything is massive.

I was able to listen to some of the meeting this morning.

The main concern for some is that Hespeler is going to turn into Dubai or downtown Vancouver (because of the tall buildings). Interesting to note that more than 30 acres of land within a 5 minute walk of this site is up for development.

Personally, I wonder who these dwellings will house. Could a person working at a nearby factory earning $40-50k per year afford a unit in one of these developments? Or is this entire project designed to benefit people from out of town?

I'm pretty confident that keeping the lot as an empty patch of dirt is more profitable than building units that are affordable for the numbers you mentioned. That's not something that developers or even city councillors can solve. I'd rather house Toronto commuters for the tax revenue and future growth than leave this place empty, even though it still sucks to choose.

Councillor Devine could NOT be further off the mark with his comments today, it is shocking.

What city councillor discourages growth and new taxpayers to their city? It's literally an empty field surrounded by under-utilized parking lots.

Once again, business only comes from car drivers? How small minded can you be?

I know that most new suburban developments are required to provide (or at least sell) lots to the local school boards. I know that there is at least one new Toronto school that was included in the condo towers near the SkyDome/Rogers Centre in Toronto. Would Waterloo Region every have a development that was large enough to either justify providing school space in a tower, or that would be dense enough that it would be required in order to avoid overwhelming the nearby schools? If residential housing is going up, then presumably municipally-funded community services will need to be accommodated in the same space?

Now, whether this development or any other tower going up in the Region actually has enough units to accommodate a family is another question altogether.

In time, yes, that'll likely happen. But at the moment, there just aren't enough families living in apartments or condos in the urban cores for any demand for a school included in a tower project. I doubt we'd see anything like that open up here for at least another...20-30+ years.

Well, Cambridge city council is already speaking out against this...because...get this...Cambridge is at risk of turning into Manhattan. Yes, Manhattan: https://www.therecord.com/news/waterloo-...s-say.html

I guess this makes Kitchener Tokyo, given the three or four dozen tall buildings downtown?
