SmartCentre development at Hespeler & Pinebush
#46
In any case, I can't wait to see what they do. Most SmartLiving projects are done by incredibly prestigious architecture firms like Diamond Schmitt and Hariri Pontarini. No clue who will be working on this one, but I suspect it'll be someone big and we'll hopefully have some true architecture in the region for a change.

I second this. If it's anything even close to what they're doing in Vaughn right now it'll be the best project in the region by a wide margin

Is there anything comparable to this in the GTA? It seems truly massive and I wonder how often these things completely change by the time they're actually built...

Plans for the terminus stations on the Yonge North subway extension in Richmond Hill are similar:

I am guessing this would take a long, long time to build. For sure retired and one foot in the grave by the time it's complete.

That loss of retail though, where does it go?

Some retail would go in the ground floor units of the new buildings; others would go elsewhere, perhaps along Hespeler Road.

The end of the Shopping Centre furthest from Hespeler Rd is already a zombie plaza. The old Rona and the block with Bed Bath and Beyond are empty/half empty. It’s perfect that the plan starts the development from that end. Additionally there is brand new residential backing onto that part of the shopping centre.

Is there no thread for the Branthaven "Community" development on the new Hollywood Court just to the south of this site?  Got a photo from the passenger seat on the highway of the new apartment building under construction there:

With news about a new massive MZO in Mississauga, I decided to quickly search online for anything about this project and got an impressive amount of silence on it.

Since SmartCentres is a pretty big operation, it seems strange that they expected to start in 2021 and absolutely nothing has happened or been announced?

They own the property and have the MZO already, so given the current post-pandemic economic disaster we're now in they're probably not looking to rush things.

I have never heard the term "uptown cambridge" before, is that new, or am I just out of the loop?
