Given that the East Side Mario's location was also closed, I'm surprised that the landlord preferred to move out an existing, and well-established tenant rather than try to make the empty location work.

Could they be planning to redevelop that wing of the plaza?

in a  bit of positive restaurant news, Cafe Pyrus has move from Charles to 305 King St W (ground floor of the old Canada Trust building).  Was there today and the place was hopping...patio was  busy.  I liked the old location but the footfall on Charles must have lessened considerably since the closing of the Bus Terminal, and they didn't have room for a patio. They'll do even better when all the nearby towers open (would have even if they stayed on Charles)

Oh wow, that's a great move. Wishing them every success.

You mean the old "Gilt" space?

Other side, they're in the old Pure Juice Bar space.

Great news! Was a shame to have both spaces empty

I remember Marbles as one of K-W's first "trendy" restaurants.  Sorry to see them go.

Sadly, it's not going to be a cheese shop. There's a sign on the window for Phlippens. I imagine it will have more than just the few products they make, so it should be something fun to have in the area. https://phlippens.com/

Phlippens only lasted about six months. COVID-19 or something else, don't know. The new tenant is The Grazing Table, which might be able to satisfy some of those cheese requirements ...

The café at the downtown KPL location finally went out of business. The library now has an active request for expression of interest up in hopes of attracting a new tenant: https://www.kpl.org/rfp

That's disappointing. Since Covid, I haven't been to the downtown library very often, but I used to spend quite a bit of time there, grab a flat white and get several hours of productivity in. I find it hard to focus on tasks in my apartment, and getting out and going to the library was my go-to solution.

When did Coffee Culture in Uptown Waterloo? I knew about Kinton Ramen but I didn't realise it replaced CC.
