Interestingly enough, I took my 11 year old daughter to her dance lesson last night and as we drove up Weber Street she pointed at DTK and said words to this effect "Dad, look at that building, it is really modern looking and it has a lot of character. I hope they build more like that, it has a really big city vibe"

I'm not well versed as most of you guys on this forum when it comes to building material choices and aesthetics. I do read with interest and learn from you all which I do appreciate.  All I like to say is that I'm a lifelong resident of KW (born in Kitchener, currently living in Waterloo) and I'm absolutely ecstatic that we finally have a couple of taller buildings in the downtown core.  I don't care how the building looks (and maybe much of you are quite right, that it will really look like crap as the building ages) but for now, when I'm driving home from work going down highway 8 towards the expressway, and I see those tall buildings, especially DTK, it looks great! It has a big city feel, finally. Another great vantage point is going north on Fischer Hallman approaching Victoria Street intersection and looking right toward downtown, Charlie 1 and DTK look fabulous and so prominent.  Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree with kwlifer. The overall positive, energetic vibe of finally having a building this tall in downtown Kitchener far outweighs any subjective, negative comments about cladding etc. For probably close to 50 years, I recall the tallest buildings were the two white apartments across from the library.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. While I do somewhat care about how a building looks, I don't dwell on it. Height is something to be proud of on its own. I smile every time I drive on the 7/8 westbound and look to my right and see the view of the growing skyline. The cranes make me happy.

Agreed! The quality will come, getting some height is the first step. 

I see that vantage point when I turn out of my subdivision each morning at the top of Victoria and have witnessed those two rising every day!

Thankfully not. KevinL's camera got the colours wrong. It's primarily a mixture of black, white with the addition of some grey on the podium level. The yellow looking ones you see actually look like this up close: https://www.waterlooregionconnected.com/...8#pid88048

Still hideous, though...as if they made them out of modelling plaster and just took a garden rake and fucked each module up.
