The Williamsburg Home Hardware on Fischer Hallman is closing. Leftover inventory will go to other locations under the same ownership in Elmira and Guelph.

Boo! That store is tremendously useful.

But not particularly busy, in my experience, which is what led to this, I imagine.

Evidently, the lease rate had gone up substantially and the owner thought best not to renew and to close the operation completely.

Has anyone been out to the new Tepperman's Furniture on Fisher-Hallman and Huron Rd? I drove by on the way back from London yesterday and was surprised, first, at how large a store it seems to be; second, that it seemed to be a stand-alone store; and third, that it's so far out of town but with lots of suburban housing going up next door (what's with the big "gap" south of Bleams Rd before you reach these "furthest suburbs"?).

Yeah, I've been there. It's a decent store that doesn't feel as sleazy as other big box furniture stores and the prices seem lower although I haven't seriously been looking so my judgement may be off. They have a 'discount store in a store' also, with lower priced items but minimal customization options. One of the staff told me there will be a grand opening sale next week.

Don't forget that there will eventually be a lot of development there and a major park right across the street:

They're practically a household name in Windsor. I bought my couch and bed when I was living there. No complaints at all!

They've always had sort of out-of-the-way stand alone stores. Chatham's was on Charing Cross Road, pretty much out of town before they had a fire. Then they moved to Hwy 2, or Lacroix St. and for a while had their temp location on Hwy 40, again, outside of Chatham proper. I've bought many many things from them, and never ever had an issue. |
