The signs have gone up this week at Gilt (305 King W) and the draperies (!) have been hung, so it should be open soon. I'm looking forward to having another good option Downtown. Especially if they can make decent cocktails.....

I have yet to try it, but I see that Stonegate Bistro on Scott St is getting really good reviews on Tripadvisor.

A few changes in Belmont Village restaurants:
Casa Rugantino has a new sign and new front window that opens up to give an open air feel in the warmer weather. Raja (formerly Melitsa's) looks to be still on track for opening late fall. The liquor license application went up recently. There was a stop work order up on the door a few weeks back, but that's since been removed. Rawlicious is getting closer to opening. They were assembling tables and painting last night when I walked by.

Especially if they can make decent cocktails..... Great news! Wasn't there another sign up in the ground floor of that building? On the other side? Maybe Pur? Anyways, you're right panamaniac. Another option downtown is a good thing. Waterloo has too many bars geared towards students. We need things for the rest of us hah. If they can survive until the downtown condos finish up, they'll be in great shape. That might have been Honest Lawyer's mistake. Opening too soon? Or pulling the plug too early? Although they were busy most weekends.

Well, The Honest Lawyer was a bit of a pit, imho.
The other place opening at 305 King W will be Pure Juice Bar and Kitchen. It will be more organic/eatery/café style, I believe. It is not quite as far along as Gilt but I could see it opening in about four or five weeks.

The Hive, a bar at 200 King St. East is closed and under renovation.
I think the business was up for sale for a while so I wonder if it has been sold and the new owner are fixing it up. The reno seems to be substantial. They're gutting it.

I've heard that it's being turned into a new restaurant, but I don't know. Another Asian restaurant would be appropriate for that location. In any case, I hope the renovations extend to the exterior, as the place is looking really run-down. Dare one hope for some brick or stone cladding?

For fans of greasy spoons, Cambridge Restaurant near King and Church in Preston has just changed hands, had a minor redecoration, and had their menu pared down considerably. I've been there for breakfast twice since the handover; the most recent visit was marked by a wait that lasted nearly half an hour, longer than I've had to wait for a meal. I'm hoping this is not a sign of things to come.
