Hopefully the new owners focus on a full scale mixed-use redevelopment like many other malls across canada. I feel like Cadillac Fairview really dropped the ball on the potential this site could have.

I hope so too. It would make the area much more vibrant

I have to assume there was local pushback - wasn’t the Fairview plan much more aggressive with the mixed use part?

My memory tells me it was really reduced in ambition but I don’t know if it was CF or the city that was the cause…

Their plan was very tame compared to mall redevelopments in the GTA or out west. It consisted of a couple towers on the north side. Seamed like they half-assed a redevelopment plan. I want to see something that includes, park space/ public square, new street grid, residential commercial and retail space, maybe even some cultural space.

We do have a whole thread for the Fairview development:

As for comparing with the Toronto mall redevelopment projects, need to keep in mind that the Kitchener property is far smaller than most of the Toronto malls that are being redeveloped.
