At least in its original iteration, the footprint of the towers was MASSIVE. They could have fit 1300 easily. I can see them easily fitting at least 2000, so long as the units weren't too large so that each floor is able to maximize the number of them. However I am sure the buildings are going to be redesigned. It would be very unusual for a new developer to buy a property and then take the architectural plans of the previous developer/architecture firm and reuse them.

I noticed a new sign on the property. I forget what it said but it appeared to be a developer or related company. I wonder if this is starting to make some progress.

Its been there pretty much since Spotlight got the property. All the sign says is Marshall Zehr which is a financial company that does mortgages and that kind of stuff.

Looks like the fat crook is gonna try to take credit for this development. Bottom of the article shows new renders.... its kinda overwhelming.

If that's what's built it will be one of the ugliest sets of buildings in KW, it's a lot like a lot of the stuff by the universities.

Yeah, it definitely has the Waterloo student vibe to it. If it really is affordable, though, maybe that makes up for the design.

Has Sherry Larjani gone blind? What the hell kind of design is that haha it looks like some sort of commieblock in Dongguan or literally any other Chinese city. I don't care about the affordable units, I hope this is not approved for any reason they can possibly find if it's gonna look like that.

If I built Virerra Village, Fairview Mall, and the LRT, then you could get from Virerra Village to Fairview Mall without going outside. But both areas would also be better for walking outside.

I don't mean any offence but are you agoraphobic or something? Being outside is vastly healthier and yea sure it rains sometimea and its cold in the winter, but thats what the ION and other public transit is for.

Looks like this project is officially dead. Hopefully a developer with a bit more vision/ pride the final product can take over the land. Chances are that piece of land sits empty for the next decade though

I don't see any particular lack of vision or pride in this, but, rather, the inability to secure financing (maybe lack of vision on the part of potential financing sources?). Spotlight seems to have expected MarshallZehr to have assisted in this, whereas MarshallZehr is blaming Spotlight for not having found financing on their own. He said, she said.

My point was more to do with the horrendous design of these buildings. Who ever came up with them doesn't care what our city looks like and should be called out on it. The made Drewlo look good somehow.

In other words, right in my message (not to mention in other things I write) I promote the availability of good outdoor walking connections. But what’s so great about getting snowed on when I’m just trying to get somewhere? Build the LRT station into Fairview Mall and into Virerra Village and give people the option of staying out of the weather if they want to. But also build regular outdoor pedestrian paths along both sides of the LRT and provide appropriate crossings of the line to make life easy for everybody walking.

Similarly, the Conestoga Mall, University of Waterloo, Waterloo Public Square, and Central Station locations are all obvious locations to give transit users a weather-protected connection to immediate neighbours of the station. Of course, don’t do it by building lots of extra single-purpose shelter structure; do it by integrating the LRT directly into the building. But also connect directly to outdoor paths because those are useful and necessary too.
