These days they charge the 12V from the high voltage pack as needed, so you can run the radio as much as you want. It's actually one of the features I really love about mine, worry free idling. Keeping the heat/AC going, not just the radio, while parked without any concerns. Some people even camp in their Teslas, as you can run the heat/AC all night.

It's a 2017 or 2018. Not sure if that's considered 'older', but maybe it is. Nice car, but he did take me out to show me the speed, 0-100 kph was insane. That said, I found the car sounded 'cheap', for example, when you shut the door. Just a lot of creaks and groans not expected from a newer car.

That's definitely a defect of some sort. That's new enough to have the improved 12V supply, I was thinking like a Roadster or first production Model S when I said really early car. I've got a 2018 and can use the computer (which includes the radio), HVAC, etc all I want when parked. You're not wrong about build quality being Tesla's weak point, though it has been steadily improving. I haven't had any serious issues, or creaking, but the wind noise and other acoustic things could be better.

The wind noise (and tire noise) is really what you hear on the highway. Those two are loud enough that you can't hear a (normal) engine, be it electric or ICE.

This is the passport check — not really any good except for those needing to check users/customers status.

There are parts of the 407ETR that have very quiet lines, though they do give off a certain pitch. You’ll visually can see the lanes have what appears to look like small grooves.

You can also buy certain tires that are quieter, if that’s meaningful to you.

Yes. And loud, aggressive off-road tires use a lot of energy (very high rolling resistance) as well.

Back in the day when we had two cars, I would seek the best (performance) tires for my car. Michelin Pilots were very grippy but still quiet. But most performance tires (maybe other types too) get louder as they wear: the tire construction uses multiple different rubber compounds and the lower levels are coarser (and harder-wearing) and louder.

Now I mostly just walk, and worry about the wear on my shoes. Smile

With the QR codes/app fully rolling out soon, I wonder how long it will take until someone finds a way to fuck around with it. The app being open source is good, which that means there are likely going to be very few security issues (particularly 0days) we'll need to worry about, but there are likely still going to be attempts to violate things, such as leaks or breaches of databases.

In France, for example, health care professionals are suspected of being behind the breach and publication of QR codes of high profile government officials, including President Emmanuel Macron. The codes were disabled, though I remember seeing a notification about a news story last week that someone used it to access a hospital recently. Any bets on how long it takes until someone leaks Doug Ford's QR code?
