Hopefully flooding doesn't get out of hand!

It seems like the Nith floods almost every year in New Hamburg. I assume it is a possibility again this time around.

The Nith runs behind our place, separated by a large farmers' field. I don't expect the Nith to flood (near Perry's Corners) but the farms are so saturated that it could become a temporary lake and meld with the river. That would be the worst case scenario. I don't expect that to happen but I'll post pictures if it's newsy.

I don’t think you are exaggerating when you say almost every year- but that’s what rivers used to do before we put them under as much management as we now do. The area just above New Hamburg is a floor plain for the Nith- it does seem likely it would flood this year, given the unusual amount of rain.

Environment Canada hasn't adjusted their forecast yet, but the latest weather model runs seem to indicate we will receive more than 100mm of rain through Sunday.
Anyone have an ark I can borrow?

Go for the high ground! We are on the 5th floor so I figure we should be all right.

100mm in three or four days is probably not that serious (though it is like a month's worth...). We got almost that much the other week in about a day.
Then again, we got that much the other week, and it rained Monday and Tuesday. Water levels are high, so maybe we will see some flooding.

That seems to be the main concern. The ground is saturated, so almost all of this rain is going to be run-off.

The Nith River south of our house.

This weather sucks so much.

That flooding is wild. The drainage canals, er, creeks as Kitchener likes to call them, are flowing as fast and full as I can remember.

96mm this week.
An average month gets about 85mm. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">That was a lot of rain last week.<br>An average month gets about 85mm.<a href="https://twitter.com/RegionWaterloo">@RegionWaterloo</a> got 96mm.<br>Data from <a href="https://t.co/wfSs7c3PAr">https://t.co/wfSs7c3PAr</a> <a href="https://t.co/figpvwIgmL">pic.twitter.com/figpvwIgmL</a></p>— Mark Jackson-Brown (@Markster3000) <a href="https://twitter.com/Markster3000/status/861240062222184448">May 7, 2017</a></blockquote>

Hopefully that means the rest of the year will offer us a reprieve from the rain.
