General Hillier admitted (my gawd) to the errors they made in holding back, back in December, but the issue is that we are running out vaccine. Meanwhile, Israel is on track to vaccinating their entire population by the end of January.
Meanwhile, all Canadians have to pound sand for at least another 6 months because the Federal government has no ability to procure the vaccine in a timely fashion.
From the article you linked: "1.2 million additional vaccine doses are expected to arrive in Canada this month. " That'll be roughly 500K doses for Ontario. According to the article, Ontario is vaccinating 10,000 people a day. So, assuming they work at full pace through the weekends, Ontario will need to speed up the vaccination rate by about 60% in order to keep up with the deliveries into the province.
Additionally, our ability to inject vaccines is a huge factor in our ability to get more. Pfizer and Moderna don't want to ship vaccines that are just going to sit in freezers, they want to send them to places that will inject them. If we were injecting them faster than they were shipping them, it would be much easier for the federal government to make the case that we should be receiving more. As long as we've injected under half of our supply, we're not going to be a priority to receive more.
Israel announced last night they have convinced Pfizer to send them enough vaccines to vaccinate everyone 16+ by March, https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/israel...ive-654672 . That puts them 3 months ahead of the US's claims, and 6 months ahead of Canada's claims. Their extremely rapid and effective rollout has to be a huge factor in why.
