The COVID-19 pandemic

I’m glad there are no spikes in the numbers locally.  Unfortunately, covid-19 is not going to go away until there is a vaccine or we reach herd immunity—when 60 to 70% of the population have been infected.   And that might mean up to two more years of misery.

There will be restrictions for some time to come yet, to be sure. 60-70% won't be reached anytime soon, I don't think, in any country -- not even in NYC. Effective treatments should hopefully be available later this year and that will help the situation, but a widely available vaccine (available in tens of millions of doses in Canada, for example) is surely well over a year away still.
