I wonder how different this medication will be from existing anti-virals, which have a good track record?

If accurate, it's going to make a real change: The limited testing showed same side-effects as placebo. But long term, who knows. It seems this drug was originally being developed for influenza. Either way -- for legitimate cases where people can't take the vaccine or are already vaccinated and get sick anyway, this is good to have available. I am sure there will be anti-vax people that won't take this medication. Many anti-vax (as opposed to vaccine hesitant, for whatever reason) are against any sort of manufactured drugs. They are the same people that go to Mexico to treat their cancer (I know of some).

Maybe Merek should make a variant for livestock...

UK study confirms that vaccination reduces the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19):
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/...21264260v1 Simplified summary: Quote:Two doses of BNT162b2 (BioNTech-Pfizer) or ChAdOx1 (AstraZeneca) vaccines in Alpha variant index cases independently reduced PCR-positivity in contacts (aOR, adjusted odds ratio vs. unvaccinated=0.18 and 0.37 respectively). So, most impact on Alpha, less so on Delta (no data on mixed doses). And, yes, the reduction does taper off over time. But, again, yet another reason to get vaccinated.
