Today's Record has a piece with additional information about the development on this corner. The TD Bank will be located at the corner, moving its branch from Fairview Park Mall. There will also be a restaurant in the mix.

Foundations are starting to go in for both the MEC and the TD.

Not a whole lot of work has been done on the MEC since the foundation was poured.
The bank is much further along.

The bank is set to open much sooner, so that much is straightforward.

MEC is known for incorporating more environmentally-friendly construction techniques for their buildings. Might make for more of a lead time here.

The MEC building is starting to materialize, some of the steel frame is up.

Yes, about half (the rear half) is up. It makes the build look odd because it seems too small, but that's because they havent's started on the front half.

Frame for the MEC is now up completely.



And yes, those pillars on the front pavilion are completely wooden.





The TD is further along - completely enclosed and ready for cladding.

The TD has opened. A very casual atmosphere inside - a central lounge with couches and a fireplace, with one-on-one offices around the outside. No teller counter. ATMs are the latest state of the art - have big touchscreens and lots of options (like bills on a withdrawal - choose your own mix of 5, 10, 20, 50, or 100s).

I'm not completely certain of the logistics as I didn't do a face-to-face. I get the impression the individual desks are equipped for those functions.

Does anyone have any information on when MEC will open? All I could find was the information on their Kitchener race series (starting May 7) and a job posting.

They'll probably use tables and tablets/cell phones, like the Apple Store does.

TD?  For a teller function?  I suspect not.  Need smart card readers and receipt printers.  Need a place for cash.  Need more secure communication than wifi.  Need to make sure information on the screen is not visible to a customer that might happen to be standing somewhere behind the desk.  

Tablets can work in some use cases but not all of them.
