Opened incomplete 4 weeks ago. Multiple portables, only 1/3 of the school accessible, no gym and classes in the staffroom. Parent teacher night cancelled. It was clear by June/July there was no chance for it to be complete. Loud and dusty. No where near just needing final touches that's for sure.

Who opened the ball? Where can one make their voice heard?

Weather is always such a convenient excuse for construction delays. Weather happens every year. Surely we can prepare for it.

The school board is always behind schedule on every project they do. They should know this about themselves at this point.

In every year I've taught, in the days leading up to the first day of school there's still construction happening that they've had all summer to do. They assure us it'll be done by the first day of classes, and it hasn't happened once.

Lowest bid. Can you finish on our timeline? Yes!

Lowest bid once they start building. How the hell are we going to do that.

One of the inherent flaws with being required to go with the lowest bid. Plus any changes made after construction starts get charged at full market rates plus timelines start to go out the window. I don’t know if this is the case on this project but it happens so often on government projects. Can I say Eglinton Crosstown!

Rain drops, work stops!

In comparison, the new St. Patrick's Catholic School at River and Kinzie went up ridiculously fast, it was impressive to watch. It didn't seem like it would be ready before school started because they had vans and contractors still there leading up to it, but I'm 99.9% sure they had everything good to go the first day.

Did they have God on their side?
