What are you assuming based on the photo? I believe that the corner wall has dark tinted glass with some colour spandrel inserts. Isn't that blue protective film on most of the glass?

Good point I'm assuming the blue is the finished product.  If that's a film they peel off then maybe it'll all turn out ok.

I find myself staring at the photo trying to make sense of it

Looking closer at it today it definitely looks to be the final product and not a protective film, there certainly isn't a protective film on the other coloured panels.

You are quite right on that, I went and looked for myself this morning. One thing I had failed to realize that this was the Charles/Madison corner, not King/Cameron, so I suppose that the upside is that it won't be visible from King St. 😊

The Charles/Cameron tower is up to 15 floors now, so it should top out in April or thereabouts. Hopefully occupancy at the end of 2025 or early 2026, given that they start work on the lower floor windows etc while the upper floors are still being built.

It's astonishing how long they've spent working on this trash lmao. It's been AN ENTIRE DECADE since this grift started haha and they aren't even halfway done it's actually kinda impressive they get away with this.

Drewlo purchased the land in 2016. Demolition in 2017. Construction started in 2018, six years ago.

Construction began in April 2017 with the demolition of existing structures and then with site preparation. To me, that is all part of the construction process. Therefore we are 7 1/2 years into this, with (likely) 2 more to go. Pretty much a decade.

I can try and grab a pic. I pick my daughter up there from the high school. I actually have had a few good conversations with the older gentleman who is the on site flag man on Cameron Street. He has been with the company for over 20 years. I really nice guy, his name is Donald. He explained a lot to me about why this has taken so long. Apparently one of the problems was the union guys. They were working at increasingly slow rates. They some how fired the lot of them about 3 months ago and have new people and the production has picked up quite a bit. This does seem to be in line what we have seen the last few months. They are definitely picking the pace up.

The funny part of that is that kids started high school in 2016-2017 school year. They graduated in 2020. Many went to university and/or college and likely many have graduated from their studies. Now they are working. And they still can't rent as the construction is still ongoing.

Also, likely some girl got pregnant while attending CHCI and perhaps their kid was 2 years old when this started. Good chance their kid will start high school at CHCI and this still won't be available for rent.

The funny part of that is that I started high school in the late 70s when the property was a run-down pair of car dealerships with junk strewn about the majority of the lots. It took 40 years from there for someone to start construction for something that adds value to downtown Kitchener rather than detracting from it.

In that context, I'm OK with Drewlo taking eight years to build this.
