Guelph getting a project designed by Hariri Pontarini just shows how fucking awful this region is ahaha. You have to understand how good of a firm that is. They are top tier in Canada, some of the best deisgners and engineers in this entire country and world. Meanwhile we have garbage from Vive and whoever the fuck designed Vertikal taking up the BEST free space in the region for the next half century or more and everyone is just like "yeah well it could be worse!" ahahaha. This place never fails to amuse me.

You of all people being involved in the architectural side of things should know the exact reason why such a thing occurs. It all comes down to who the developer is. In KW we have tiers of developers, much like other cities, we have a lot of developers who try to do things as cheap as possible so you end up with loads of buildings designed by SRM (IN8), Reinders+Associates (Vive), and Masri O (Northdale). Then you have developers who are willing to spend a bit more and get designs done by Turner Fleischer (Auburn/VanMar) and Kirkor (VanMar), obviously we haven't gotten ourselves an HP building yet but we have had a few decent architects work on proposals and projects in the Region namely Diamond Schmitt, WHZM, and Moriyama Teshima. It's not that we haven't had good architects it's that the volume of work tends to be done by the "lower tier" ones, and while the buildings designed by Kirkor are not everyone's favourite I'd take them any day over the Reinders+Associates ones.

The only reason Guelph has an HP building is because you have Fitzrovia involved in it, if you had a different developer (non GTA based) you'd end up with a similar architectural quality as KW. While nothing is public there are properties owned in KWC that are owned by GTA developers who eventually have plans to build and are using those higher tier developers, like everything it just takes time.
