I'd recommend Black Arrow Cycles near Queen and Charles -- Jesse and the folks there are knowledgeable and super nice. I think he said he rides a single speed so it's definitely possible :)

Chopan Kabob near Highland and Belmont is really good. I also can't comment on authenticity (they call themselves Afghan/Indian) but everything is delicious and the folks are super nice.

Thanks for the info. It always seems like there are nail heads protruding from the boards on that bridge, and I have worried about flat tires. Widening it will also be great.
