What's New? Not pinned threads - greybird - 09-11-2024
Hi! I'm a longtime lurker of WRC (and Wonderful Waterloo before that), and I just realized I've been missing out on a lot of interesting posts.
My practice is to use the 'What's New?' button to see threads with new posts since my last visit. Today, I happened to click into a subforum and notice a pinned general discussion thread at the top, which made me realize that I do not see ANY pinned threads in the 'What's New?' results and therefore haven't been reading them. I'm fairly certain that the general discussion threads did show up in 'What's New?' at one point, but that's going back at least a couple of years and quite possibly much longer.
Is there an admin setting that could bring pinned threads into 'What's New?' results, or is this a case where I'll have to adjust my behaviour and venture into the individual subforums if I want to keep tabs on those threads?

That's odd, I use the same method that you outline, but I do get updates for the 'general discussion' threads in there.

Yeah, I’m a habitual What’s New user and all the pinned threads update live for me.

Bizarre! I've attached two screenshots as evidence that there's something more going on than me not seeing the obvious -- one shows my What's New view as of this minute and the other shows an unread pinned thread that, based on datestamps, should certainly be in that list.

Nope. It's super weird behaviour, and I have not come up with any ideas on how/why this should be happening.

Yes, I'm still experiencing this, and from read/unread markers I believe it was somewhere around September 2023 that this problem began for me. I've also realized that it isn't just pinned threads -- there are also unpinned threads that aren't making it into my What's New? search. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it; there's no correlation to specific subforums or thread lengths or anything else I can think of.
This is such an odd and specific glitch that I don't really expect we'll ever figure out what's going on!

Ya, especially because it seems to be isolated to your experience. What about using different browsers?
