That's what I was thinking. They already have a billion parking spots in the old Market Square garage as Europro still technically owns that (possibly the old city hall as well?) and I imagine it doesn't get used too often given that most students don't drive and there are certainly not enough staff to fill the parking garage anyway. They could definitely redevelop that parking lot with a nice skyscraper and cram a couple hundred residential units there.

It's a good bit of land right next to an LRT station, it has to be worth more than just a surface lot.

Or they sell it to a developer. It's prime land and a decent-size parcel, too.

26 King St has its cladding--and a mural! It doesn't match the rest of the building, but it's a very nice book-end for it.

I know this site is definitely uniquely limited by the dimensions, but there’s something seriously wrong with modern architects (and their paying clients)… who hurt them?

Well that looks ridiculous

The mural is nicely whimsical. The rest of it is not so appealing.

There's a thread for that project here: https://www.waterlooregionconnected.com/showthread.php?tid=1750

But what are you guys talking about...this is pretty good. The mural is out of place but the rest of the design is nice and simple.

We are just too uneducated and ignorant to understand. Don't worry though, the enlightened architects know what's best for us and will correct for our wrong tastes.

Well, I will chime in. I fall into the uneducated and ignorant, but I love this. I think it's totally awesome..

It actually looks much like the original render.

The interior now seems to be in, this should be close to occupancy. I assume two units, on at the front and one in the back. Rental, surely?

I'm tempted to try and get a tour of it. I'd love to see how creative they got with the space.

It's super cool! In Europe or Japan it wouldn't be seen as weird... but of course our suburban north american brains cannot comprehend it.

The only thing I don't get is why the "mural" on the side is a mid 20th century cabinent TV...how does that relate? Hah.

Ironic? An Electrohome TV?
