It's a good six months or more since the owner of the American Hotel block said he hoped to attract an urban supermarket to the corner of King and Queen.  I've seen no sign that Casper's is closing down however.

I presume you mean Caper's right. Personally I like Casper's better. Smile It couldn't help but be a nicer place than the current dive.

Current rumour is the Budd's space, but it seems awfully soon for any signs to be up there, so I'm guessing another building has something in mind.

J&P Grocery?  I hope someone told them about Jnp Filipino Grocery over at Madison and Courtland! 
Is that picture of space in 8 Queen St N?  The only other places I can think of with ceilings that high would be the old Eatons and the Tannery, and I don't think either of those has a staircase inside.

I’m presuming this is a South Asian or East Asian grocery store (a la B&T and many others)…has anyone heard of this outfit before? I can’t find anything with that name online (there seems to be an online grocery by the name JP in India).

I’m only assuming it couldn’t be J and P Filipino (which is listed as JnP online, but signed “J and P”). Maybe it could be, who knows. Regardless, though, it’s a great central spot for a grocer, even a small one, so this is encouraging news to say the least.

As in, you think the owners are white? How would it be possible to tell that? (Or are you just playing the percentages?)

The name is the only thing that makes me think it might be an ethnic-focused store. That seems like a common naming convention. B&T, T&T, J&P Filipino Grocery as mentioned earlier.

But, anyway, I look forward to hearing more about how big it will be and what kind of focuses it will have.
