Wow, I'm impressed. The plan is to replace 42,500 lights in one year. That's over 100 a day, if you include weekends and holidays.

Are the blue dots completed lights, or something else?

Yes, blue lights are done.  Can also change the layer to show black dots for poles not being changed.

Are these poles all LED already, or are we keeping some unchanged for some reason?

Most I saw on google maps were decorative poles, but some are in private lanes not roads, so maybe responsibility of land owners?
Or maybe cheaper to leave old bulb.  Ex: Transit Hub/waterloo St, poles will be taken down eventually?

Oh, wow!! I completely had understood that only the "regional roads" would be switching to LED, which I assumed meant the roads that were numbered - Victoria St being RR 55, Charles being RR 64, King being RR 15, etc. But that map shows that basically every streetlight in the region is being changed! That's great!

RE: Streetlight LED Conversion - GtwoK - 03-15-2017

Wish there was a schedule for what will be completed when, or at least a "coming up next" record. Disappointing that basically ALL of downtown will not be getting LED lights. You'd think that'd be THE prime location for them. Or does downtown already have them? I can't remember. I know Queen doesn't them, and Queen would've been a BEAUTIFUL walk with them in those spherical shades that are there already Sad

Here's a fun oddity... the lone street light in the middle of nowhere that has already been changed over Smile

I think the "traditional style" streetlights in the core don't support LEDs. Besides, nothing's as traditional as yellow glowing incandescent bulbs

Flickering coal oil street lamps?

Certainly much of Downtown Kitchener here falls under various projects - the King Street rebuild of a few years ago, or along ION, or the Weber rail underpass, etc. Queen Street North is a bit of an exception; it has a unique design of fixture that probably cannot be easily changed.

There's actually a little court over there with some older estate homes. I think there is only one light on the court (IIRC) So that would make sense.

Looks like they are starting in edges of the Region and making there way in ward. There are some completed in Wellesley, Ayr and along Hwy 24 in North Dumfries.

RE: Streetlight LED Conversion - Canard - 03-15-2017

As much as I love the LED lighting elsewhere, I'd hate to see them on Queen, between Lancaster and Weber. That's a beautiful section at night as it is, with a very calm feel. Blasting LED lights here I think would ruin it.

RE: Streetlight LED Conversion - tomh009 - 03-15-2017

You can do anything with LEDs. They could make the lights on Queen yellow-orange, and flickering like the gas lights of yore.

RE: Streetlight LED Conversion - Pheidippides - 03-15-2017

Queen has LED and the decorative ones between Charles and Courtland:

True enough; this is the section I was talking about, though, Pheidippides:
