...that's thanks to it's weird bogie arrangement. Because it's four cars, that means it's not symmetric. So module 2 has 2 bogies, and modules 1, 3 and 4 all have 1 and are trailered. So they just shove doors in wherever they can. I really don't care for this arrangement.

Not quite. And it's still missing a lot of cosmetic fairings.

For another $500 million, we could have had epic stations too!

Ours can be improved over time as well, that's what Calgary did, started with a bare-bones and developed over time.

RE: Ottawa LRT - KevinL - 12-07-2016

Don't forget, Ottawa has gone one step above our system by almost completely grade-separating it. This means stations with stairs and elevators (and thus enclosed areas).

The LRT project is completely grade separated! The parts of the Transitway that are not grade separated are being made so in the conversion to LRT.
In fact, the plan for phase 2 is completely grade separated too.
It's not until the extension to Barrhaven that we might see it with level crossings.

RE: Ottawa LRT - KevinL - 12-07-2016

Huh, could have sworn there were some level crossings at a couple points in this phase.

Thanks for the clarification.

RE: Ottawa LRT - Markster - 12-07-2016

Ottawa could very arguably gone with a high floor metro design. The low floor Light Rail concept was more a requirement back in the original 2006 plan, which called for street running in downtown (LOL!) and in Barrhaven.

OMG. Could you imagine Markster? Trains running down Slater and Albert? Ouch!

Let us take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief that this never came to be:

I think you mean billion - and still get a line that's half as long as ours.

If ion can teach the world of Rapid Transit anything - it's how to get the most bang for the buck.

This seems rather wasteful given that these are already level crossings with a transit ROW.

Nah, I figure $500M for the fancy stations, $500M for the tunnel. We're only talking about adding one of those to ION! Smile

RE: Ottawa LRT - Canard - 12-10-2016

Their system is 2+ billion and half as long as ours. So that's 4x more per kilometre.
