Based on the renders and apparent quality of the plans, Cambridge should be glad they are getting a solid first landmark tower. Feels like people can't see a good opportunity here to set a standard even if it is tall.

If this gets approved, it will easily be the best skyscraper in the city. The architectural design is wonderful and normally something you'd only see in major cities, not a bedroom community like Waterloo Region. Cambridge residents and council will be fools if they don't let this get built. It would do so much for this part of the region. There'd be tons of jobs created and would easily become the best hotel we have.

Somewhat off topic, but I do want to argue that Waterloo Region is not a bedroom community. A bedroom community is essentially a suburban extension of a larger city, where people live but, as a rule, commute to the city for work, shopping and pleasure.
The vast majority of the Waterloo Region residents work in the region -- and many people from outside the region even commute to our region for work. We are a fully functional community, even if we are smaller, and within an hour (or so) of GTA.
Oh yes, Cambridge absolutely should approve this project.

It's been approved by a close vote of 5 to 4.
