I had their cold pressed coffee and sampled some of their juices. Pretty good! (but pricey)

Just wanted to give a shout out to City Pizza on Weber St. E. We stop in there quite often and the service is great and the pizza is even better.

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - Canard - 02-07-2016

1400 Weber St. E. It's in the plaza with the Bulk Barn, near Highway Zehrs and the Beer Store.

Haven't tried City Pizza, but Franklin Pizza in the same area is pretty good too.

VERY good!  They also have a location at Westmount and Fisher Hallman

When you guys talk about pizza, what kind of pizza are you talking about? Chicago-style deep-dish, wood-oven thin-crust, something in between?

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - Coke6pk - 02-08-2016

If it's anything like the City Pizza in Cambridge, I'd put it in the category of "greasy, tasteless".... a worse version of the 3 for 1 pizza chain.

Coke

Speaking of pizza, I had some delivery from Pepi's on Saturday that was bloody awful! I've noticed a downhill slide for Pepi's the last few years but this was terrible.

Canadian Pizza at Lincoln and University is not only less expensive, but also better. Last time Pepi's will get my money.

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - MidTowner - 02-09-2016

Five years ago, Pepi's was a sacred cow in my circle and no one would have dared criticise it. Lately, I've heard others say that they have noticed a decline in quality.

I rarely get Pepi's because I find it a bit expensive. Last time I had it, I found it to be as good as I remembered, but I'm not the most discerning pizza eater anyway.

Has anyone tried Papa Joe's on Victoria? I plan on trying it next. I suspect it'll be one of those independents competing solely on cost and not giving a lot of thought to quality, but some of the cheap places can have really good pizza so I'm hoping to be surprised.

I've never had Pepi's prior to the last few months. It's not a Campus Pizza or a Fratello's-quality slice when you order one of their pies, but it doesn't blow me away. Pricey as it can be, Mon Ami and Gourmet Pizza are my favourites.

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - tomh009 - 02-09-2016

Ah, Mon Ami appears to be using a wood oven. Now I'm actually getting interested ...

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - MidTowner - 02-09-2016

Mon Ami is very good. It's a bit pricey, but great pizza.

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - tomh009 - 02-09-2016

Some research reveals that the same family owns Gourmet Pizza and Mon Ami Pizza. And that the wood oven isn't actually a wood oven, but a stainless steel oven hiding behind a faux brick facade. Oh, well.

Marbles, on William St. in Uptown, has been undergoing renovations under new ownership and is almost done. Recent twitter/FB activity has been that they're now looking to hire. So it sounds to me like they're a few weeks from reopening.

They've also tweeted about having 8 taps, with some rotation. They've mentioned some local and Ontario craft breweries already, such as Wellington, Block 3, Sidelaunch and Collingwood.

In the past, I've liked the idea of going to Marbles (especially during the summer, when their patio is very pleasant) but the reality has been always slightly disappointing food and only a couple of beers on tap, so we didn't go very often. So, I'm pretty intrigued to see how this renovation and menu revamp turns out.
