RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Momo26 - 04-10-2025 Mentions holes for the new transit hub and stuff are in/going in? https://www.reddit.com/r/kitchener/s/T9aQeL1WUG RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Momo26 - 04-10-2025 Where will they relocate the people camped? My vote is tiny modular homes but whose asking me right! My vote is tiny modular homes but whose asking me right! It sounds great to me but we really need to be asking the people who are involved. RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Acitta - 04-14-2025 Developer plans to retain part of early Schneiders factory in Kitchener residential project The two-storey red brick building at 63 Courtland Ave. E. in Kitchener was home to J.M. Schneider’s butcher business from about 1909 to 1925, when it moved to the larger Courtland Avenue plant. RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - kps - 04-14-2025 Sorry, have a better version somewhere but can't find it right now. RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - tomh009 - 04-14-2025 Thanks, much easier to envision the original part of the building now! I do wonder what was on the right side (not original but one of the additions) that is now blocked by gray brick. A house, to judge by the sloping roof. RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - ac3r - 04-15-2025 I'm glad they're keeping that, though the whole structure could have been maintained and with creative architecture, integrated into the new project. Still, nice to see some preservation of local cultural history. Here is a photo of the building attached to (what presumably was) an existing house (which was not Schneider's original home — that was down the street). This has a photo of the building after it was expanded, but still Schneider's. The Growing Together East planning framework will be applied to lands around the Block Line, Fairway and Sportsworld stations." RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | completed - ac3r - 04-23-2025 It isn't even about the architecture or materials, it's that everything in this region SUCKS. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | completed - Momo26 - 04-23-2025 I said it several times before, and I'll say it again- hopefully before the forum czars come in saying "off topic!", Kitchener DTK needs major major work. The stark difference coming in from Uptown Waterloo into DTK is literally day and night. Exit from a well lit and uplifting vibe to darkeness, shadows, drugs and sadness. The rebuttals of 'but there are so many festivals!' Does not hold up when the day-to-day is depression. So much wasted potential. It's going to become some condo tower wasteland. If a few tech companies exit we could literally see it fall into worse condition. Mark the date Conestoga leaves Market Square and let's see what comes of that corner and this building in 1, 3 and 5 years. I hope something vibrant comes in to Market Square. |
