There was a popular meme last year about how men just instinctually love digging holes, so when faced with that task we get to work. Dudes rock. :'P This part of construction is pretty easy because you basically just gotta dig a hole and dump a ton of concrete in there. Optimistically for this skyscraper I'd guess 2.5ish years maximum for it to top out and no more than 4.5 years at most for it to be more or less complete enough for people to start moving in. Then a couple extra weeks for them to come back and fix up any problems due to it being IN8+SRM, à la Duke Tower and its peeling windows or all the lights in the building deciding to flicker etc. RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - skyrise32 - 04-24-2023 (04-22-2023, 10:30 PM)ac3r Wrote:(04-22-2023, 09:22 PM)Spokes Wrote: That's a surprise! A bit of an understatement I think about "just dig a hole and dump a ton of concrete in there" lol I would argue the period from shoring to reaching typ floor is the most technically challenging of the entire job. RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - CuilTard - 04-29-2023 Is Tek getting radiant floor heating in the ramp into the garage? Fancy. Almost as fancy as putting a roof over it! But seriously, radiant floor heating is underused. The LRT platforms absolutely should have used it. RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - Chris - 05-05-2023 Walked by today. Rebar is about 7' above grade and some of the concrete floors are poured above grade. This thing is growing like a healthy weed. I shall call it The Tek Thistle RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - ac3r - 05-05-2023 I think this tower will prove once and for all whether SRM Architects has ANY talent. Anything...whatsoever. They might because I know people who have been there (and obviously left lol)...but is there anyone left? The design of this looks, uh, acceptable I guess. I have no complaints about the podium. The tower is a bit repetitive but it's tricky to alter it without relying on super generic design tricks that exist in 2023. But to do it correctly takes a good designer. We've all seen how terribly 100% of their work has been so far. It stains the region, like tumorous growths that you can see and want to have some form of nuclear radiation destroy. Will the small team that worked on this tower have actually succeeded in designing something nice? Will it psychologically comfortable? Are the the materials high quality? Is the interior and exterior of the building going to have any issues? Does the building look nice to look at from outside? What about inside? Apart from SRM being quite nearly (but not entirely) talentless, they are thieves. Pop quiz! :'P Can anyone tell these two apart? Any idea which one SRM Architects designed and which one was done by an extremely famous firm that? Regardless of your answer, it's pretty insane for an "upcoming" architecture firm to straight up steal someone else's creative output, convince obviously clueless team leaders it's their own original work and to then actually have this Dollarama bootleg get constructed. ![]() RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - tomh009 - 05-06-2023 (04-29-2023, 10:36 PM)ijmorlan Wrote:(04-29-2023, 02:10 PM)CuilTard Wrote: Is Tek getting radiant floor heating in the ramp into the garage? Fancy. Our building has a heated ramp as well. The top parking deck has to be plowed, but keeping the ramp ice-free is essential, and the heating is critical for that. RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - nms - 05-07-2023 With respect to working 20 hours a day (4:00am to 12:00am), surely there are ways to do construction that aren't incredibly noisy? I seem to recall hearing somewhere that in other parts of the world (eg Europe) there are very active construction sites that are next to schools and other sensitive areas that do not have a cacophony of noise going. or is it just because North American tool and equipment suppliers are required to make quieter equipment? RE: TEK Tower (30 Francis) | 45 fl | U/C - Joedelay Highhoe - 05-08-2023 I live pretty much kitty corner from TEK and haven't yet been disturbed by any noise. It might be worst for people in 1 Vic, or for people with open windows facing the construction site. So far I'm impressed with the progress and organization of this project.
