I think two things are important here...
First, go vote or even campaign in the NDP nomination race. Primary races are important...and they get NO attention. You probably have 1000x more say in a primary race than a general election. Let the party know that you won't be voting for a fake progressive.
Second, don't vote for a fake progressive. At the end of the day, a single byelection doesn't really matter....it isn't going to stop Ford, it's a great opportunity for a protest vote...for whoever you feel is qualified no matter the party.
May I suggest that the Green Party is worth a look these days...they've had their problems but provincially and locally I think they're strong.

I am a member of the GPO and voted to nominate Aislinn Clancy and will vote for her, even though I voted for Laura Mae Lindo in the last two elections.

I would vote for the Conservative government if I was stuck choosing between more Doug Ford government, whoever the Liberals run and fucking Chapman. Greens don't even count and is equal to burning your ballot because even if they got a new candidate in, they're never going to have any power.
I'm so frustrated with Canadian politics that I would actually consider taking an accelerationist policy by voting for the Conservatives, just to send a message to the NDP that they need to smarten the hell up and start running actual legitimate candidates who have intellect and an understanding of important things like political philosophy, economics, sociology, environmentalism etc. Time and time again they pick the worst candidates they can possibly find and then wonder why they always fail.

She unfortunately doesn't have to, it's the same reason councillor Clancy does not have to. Here's the mayors explanation of it, "Under Ontario’s Municipal Act, a city councillor does not have to vacate their seat in order to run provincially or federally. However, should they win the eventual by-election, council would then have a decision to make about the seat." That's from CTVs article on Clancy running for the Green party.
