Nice to see the east end coming back (in fact becoming better than it has ever been)!

3 floors with ground floor retail, and 8 truly tiny apartments above (250 to 300 sq ft). No parking. Fills in a longstanding gap in the King St E streetwall.

Yeah, that’s where that place burned to the ground a few years back (maybe 2016?). Nice addition to the east end. 250 sq ft isn’t much larger than my bedroom, so that’s tiny home living at its best.

They are small so they will be affordable (though not technically "affordable housing" as they are too small to qualify). 250-300 sqft can still be very functional for a single person.

Kudos to Facet for doing this!

Year 1999 or winter 2000 was the fire.

The more recent fire was at the old tavern a few doors east, no?

Yes. Marina's. It was a lively bar on the weekends. Too bad it burned down.

I think that property has been up for sale somewhat recently, but not sure if it sold. Maybe a similar style building will eventually get built there.

Do we have any more detailed renderings of the micro apartment?

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Square - 08-20-2020

Saw some drilling behind U-haul on Charles Street. Could be something or maybe nothing.

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Spokes - 08-20-2020

Now that would be exciting!

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Momo26 - 08-20-2020

Behind U-Haul meaning in front of Tannery? Exciting would be move U-Haul to an industrial area and throw up a lively block of restaurants and shops!

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Lens - 08-20-2020

Manulife is selling/has sold that parking lot for development.

Yes, the parking lot behind Ziggys Cycle.

Will this be the future 50 storey building Insider was talking about?, hmm, lol

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Momo26 - 08-21-2020

50 story wowzers. Some commercial space below as well one would hope. Looks big enough for 2 'skinny towers' if they wanted...
