Kitchener company to make machine guns for Canadian Armed Forces

Not really as surprising as the article title may imply as Colt Canada (and Diemaco before it) has been making several types of firearms for the CAF for more than two decades now.

The Record: "Amazon searching North America for second HQ"

Amazon has announced a public search for where they'll locate their 2nd HQ. They're looking for a metropolitan area with a population of more than 1M, but I think Waterloo Region could make a strong case with our proximity in the GGH, strong high-tech industry, and international airport. Probably a long shot, but it would be incredibly transformative if we’re successful.

Seattle location has 20K employees: that's more than double what Blackberry had in Waterloo at the peak. It's quite large for us, and a longshot.

Next to public transit (check), a few minutes from the expressway (check), less than an hour from YYZ (check) and even closer to YKF (check).

It's a long shot but ...

It would be a longshot, but it would be ideal.

What bugs me is the shopping for tax breaks.  They should come here because we have the talent and tech environment.
