Properly speaking, the whole system is the O-Train - the original DMU service is the Trillium Line, the forthcoming LRT is the Confederation Line.

...which is terminology that was only locked down about a year ago, so I wouldn't fault anyone for continuing to refer to the Trillium Line as "The O-Train" for a few years still.

Seems they have something of a setback today.

Massive sinkhole shuts down Rideau Street in downtown Ottawa

RE: Ottawa LRT - panamaniac - 06-08-2016

I wonder to what extent the Rideau station is implicated in this? The sinkhole is, at a minimum, right next to the future station/LRT line. The immediate concern must be the immediately neighbouring buildings, but I'll wait to see what damage, if any, this has caused to their LRT construction.

RE: Ottawa LRT - Canard - 06-08-2016

Yeah - very curious what kind of delay they'll be looking at here. 9-18 months?

If you want to dig up some history, build an LRT system. Waterloo uncovers a corduroy road, and Ottawa uncovers an ancient Rideau Canal.

I have read previous stories about a sinkhole in Ottawa, but I think they were talking about a place where tax dollars go.

They just released too the other day that the whole system will be under the "O-Train" brand. And the lines will just be called their respective names.

?

This has been the intended branding since at least late 2014.

OH! My apologies, I got my news mixed up. I was reading this: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-lrt-debut-shuffle-bus-routes-fares-1.3620313 and then Googled "O-Train system name" and the article I was reading was from 2014! You are right Smile

My bad!

But that article has some cool news like; new signs, lowered cash fares when the system launches, and if you look at the map, it looks like the Trillium Line will be named 'Line 1" and the Confederation Line will be named 'Line 2"

Cool!

Not directly related to this, but I didn't feel it merited its own thread. A private initiative has been started to create commuter rail lines in the Ottawa-Gatineau region: https://www.letsgomoose.ca/

I'm heading up there tomorrow for work! I'll see if I can grab some updates from the locals and some pics for us!

RE: Ottawa LRT - Canard - 08-03-2016

There's a great bridge that overlooks the Belfast Yards; sort of like how Weber provides a great overlook of our own OMSF. Highly recommended! You might even see some train movements of their first Alstom CITADIS, which is taking test laps around the yard.

Maybe. From what I read from the article, the cost is $3B, with Ontario funding $1B and the feds doing $1B plus almost $200M. So even if we do stage 2 LRT, we're going to have to come up with almost 1/3 the cost for the project.
