King Fish and Chips near King and Ottawa is a good choice. The owners seem like nice people, and the fish isn't overbattered like many places i've been. I love good fish and chips so I’m looking forward to this. Thanks for the joke, dad.... My favorite around here is Stoyles in downtown Galt, but it's a long trek from Waterloo without a car. Would like something equivalent that sells East Coast Cod (and not the pre-battered Capt. Highliner stuff). that is closer to Waterloo. The Grill at King East and Morgan does fish and chips .They're no Joey's Only or Granny Bond's, but they're OK... Edit for typo: 'and' doesn't have a g in it RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - nms - 06-19-2020 A few morsels of food news from Waterloo: - Sabletine Pastries has moved from 203 King St S to 209 Lexington Rd, Waterloo (into the tiny strip mall that was supposed to be part of the development at Lexington and Davenport...that project is now different and this parcel of land was sold off) - La Fromagerie has moved in a few doors down from Sabletine. They have a fine selection of cheese and gelata (distributed by the Whole-Lota-Gelata owner) - It would appear that Scoop Du Jour has wandered off (likely since it was connected in some way to Chainsaw) RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - jwilliamson - 07-01-2020 Score Pizza is opening today in Uptown at the corner of King and Willis. RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - Spokes - 07-02-2020 Hope they do well! RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - tomh009 - 07-03-2020 A new tenant opening in the former Mr Sub location. RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - robdrimmie - 07-03-2020 I'm disappointed. It will probably do fine, but half a block up the street is Big Fat Pita, Ace and Taste of Philly who serve almost the exact same lunch fare. Competition is good, I agree with that general statement. There's nothing lost by this new place, and I'll probably add it to my rotation when I return to working downtown regularly. But in general, I am one of those who subscribes to the notion that DTK needs ground floor commercial interests beyond lunch counters. Agreed. But this unit is quite small, and very much set up for take-out food. There is no shortage of ground-floor retail locations in downtown, and there are more in the pipeline (345 King W, Young Condos) so availability is not a problem. For the time being, it seems that there is enough lunch business to keep a lot of restaurants in business. True enough, and I'm grateful for this reminder. Thank you. |
